In summary, our findings in a rat model of obesity in vivo demonstrate that DDW can normalize metabolic parameters and markedly reduce body fat. Under low deuterium content (below natural levels in drinking water) there was a reduction in systemic inflammation caused by obesity. Our data can be used in future biomedical and therapeutic research, where deuterium can be considered as an adjuvant regulator of biological processes in the obesity model.

These results indicate that, after deuterium depleted water consumption, the athletes performed the load stages with lower blood lactate levels, which possibly means that the cells became anoxic less or later on physical load, or lactate elimination was improved. The examination results were concordant with the athletes’ subjective experiences, namely that after drinking deuterium depleted water, they had improved performance, regenerated faster, and had better stamina on bodily load. DDW may therefore be suitable for improving performance in situations with increased physical load.

Conclusions
The present investigation shows that deuterium depletion in water reverses the intracellular effects of Mn exposure in C. elegans. We show that Mn caused reduction in DAF-16 and SOD-3 levels, which was associated with reduced life-span. Notably, treatment of Mn exposed worms with DDW (90 ppm) restored life-span, DAF-16 and SOD-3 levels to control levels. In conclusion, our study strongly suggest that low D concentrations can restore the Mn-induced reduced life-span in C. elegans, reinforcing the need of further studies to improve the understanding on DDW therapeutic mechanisms.

LUNG CANCER
We investigated the survival of 129 patients with different lung cancer histological subtypes. The distribution of lung cancer subtypes in our study represents the population of lung cancer patients seen in Western countries (16). We observed longer survival of females and older patients; furthermore, patients with adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma could expect longer survival than those with SCLC. These findings are consistent with what is generally observed in lung cancer (17, 18), and this would suggest that DDW treatment in our study did have a pronounced effect on certain expected survival patterns.

Deuterium is an important predisposing factor for cancer. Deuterium depleted water, also known as low deuterium water, ultra-light water or no deuterium water, can be obtained by removing deuterium from natural water. Studies have shown that water with a low deuterium concentration (<65% percent of volume) can inhibit cancer growth. Clinical trials demonstrated that drinking DDW (10-20 ppm) caused growth arrest of malignant cells in cancer patients and significantly prolonged the patient survival with also improved quality of life. A wide range of anti-cancer drugs in current use are associated with severe adverse effects, while deuterium-depleted water appears to have virtually no pharmacological side effects and is convenient to administer. The authors review the advances in the researches of anti-cancer effects and the underlying mechanisms of deuterium depleted water.
